Diana Vickers has become more aware of drugs now that she's moving in showbiz circles.

But The X Factor 2008 finalist says she's not interested in experimenting with illegal substances.

‘People have offered me drugs,' says Diana, 18. ‘But I've never tried them. And I'm very proud of that.

'I see people around me who are off their head on ketamine and I think, "Look at yourself, you're an absolute mess."'

Diana insists her mother has helped her keep her feet firmly on the ground.

‘I'm definitely not a diva,' she tells Fabulous.

‘My mum always taught me that you get what you're given, you eat what you've got on your plate, you say thank you and you wash it up yourself. That's always stuck with me.'

Diana's debut album Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree is released today.

…Inspiration

I worked with some great people on my album, Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree. They really inspired me! Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol wrote one of the songs, which is amazing. Snow Patrol is such an incredible band. Working with Ellie Goulding was also really good – I had so much fun with her. She’s a really talented, interesting girl and she’s got a really good album. But one of my favourite things I’ve recorded is a little folky song with Lightspeed Champion – he’s brilliant!

…A dose of reality TV

I’m avidly following Over The Rainbow – Andrew Lloyd Webber’s search for the new Dorothy. My mum was a big fan of his last series, and I met one of the competitors at The Ivy a while ago. We got chatting and ended up singing around the piano!

…Film fun

I haven’t actually been to many film premieres. I did go to the premiere of Me & Orson Welles, which was really exciting. I enjoyed the red-carpet treatment and even caught a glimpse of Zac Efron – he’s gorgeous! When I’m not glamming it up, I love anything with Johnny Depp in it – he is a beauty of a man.

I’m open to all different kinds of music. I’m obsessive about the Kings Of Leon and I think Queen is incredible. Recently I’ve been getting into Bombay Bicycle Club and Mumford And Sons, but you can’t beat a bit of good old 90s dance music!

I love Come Dine With Me. I’m obsessed with it. It’s so funny! I wouldn’t go on it, I’d be awful! I’m not brilliant in the kitchen by any means, but I can whip up a really good spaghetti bolognese.

I think Lady Gaga’s Telephone video is awesome. She’s got the money behind her to do something like that – it really works for her. I’m not sure if I’d get away with it though!

How the Marmite girl, Diana Vickers became the toast of British pop

Revenge of 'The Claw': Diana Vickers' decision not to rush her album release has paid off
Appearing on The X Factor as a callow 16-year- old schoolgirl, Diana Vickers was the unconventional pop princess who millions of TV viewers loved to hate.

Singing barefoot as she nervously pawed the air with her left hand, her sweet, folk-tinged vocals immediately set her apart from the traditional cast of big, warbling balladeers.

She was dubbed 'kooky' by the judges and 'The Claw' by the show's huge audience. Simon Cowell, an admirer, said she was like Marmite: you either adored or detested her.

And as she progressed to the semi-finals of the 2008 contest, won by Alexandra Burke, the Lancashire lass provoked increasingly extreme reactions.

But Vickers was unfazed. A down-to-earth girl who liked singing Coldplay and Dido, she was happy to be the one whose face didn't quite fit. She was also relieved to exit the show when the time arrived.

'I'm pretty confident and easy-going, so I didn't take the criticism too seriously,' says Diana, now 18, chatting between recording a Radio 1 live session and a clothes fitting in the London HQ of her record label.

'I didn't exactly enjoy the negative comments, but I did have 250,000 people voting for me, too. Everyone wanted to win the show, but Alexandra was a deserved winner that year. She was fully formed as an artist and knew just what she wanted.

'I gave everything, but I was pleased to leave after the semi-finals. If I'd won, I might not have been given the freedom I've since had. As it is, I'm really grateful for the path I've taken.'
Diana's post-X Factor route has been long and winding. Confident enough to wait 18 months - a lifetime in talent show terms - before releasing any solo material, she took a four-month break from her pop career to star in a critically acclaimed remake of The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice in the West End.
Now, though, music is centre stage once more. Diana's debut single Once last week deposed Usher at the top of the charts, while her first album, Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree, should silence those keen to write her off as just another Identikit reality show graduate.

The album showcases her raspy vocals and features support from some talented friends. Electro diva Ellie Goulding ('a top girl') and guitar-strumming indie-folk maverick Lightspeed Champion ('a really sweet guy who is passionate about music') both helped to write tracks.

'It made sense for me to bide my time,' Diana says of the album's languid release. 'The most important thing was that I was happy with the record. I wanted to cowrite all the songs and I wanted to get them right.

'Little Voice delayed things, but appearing in the West End was something I couldn't refuse. I'm not a trained actress, but I learned on the job. I was singing Dusty Springfield, Judy Garland and Shirley Bassey songs. It took a lot of stamina. One night, I had a chest infection. Another night, I got burned with hot water and fell over. But I was determined not to miss a show.

'Now I've finally got the chance to release my own album. I'm feeling a mixture of emotions. I'm anxious - but excited, too.'

Although Cowell is no longer involved in Diana's career ('he's far too busy with Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle and Alexandra!'), he has offered support from afar and was one of the first to congratulate Vickers after she topped the charts.

Born in Blackburn and raised in the nearby village of Huncoat, Diana was taking A- levels in Theatre Studies, Classics and Psychology when a schoolmate signed her up for The X Factor.

'I didn't want to do it at first, because it sounded like too much effort,' she says. 'Most of the other performers - Alexandra, Ruth Lorenzo and JLS - had all sung live before. My stage experience consisted of singing in the school choir and doing a couple of school plays.

'But I loved music. When I got home from school, I'd go straight to my room and listen to CDs. I was always playing Queen, The Beatles, Kings Of Leon and Tina Turner.'

Diana's roller-coaster ride on The X Factor will also be remembered for her close friendship with fellow teenager Eoghan Quigg, who finished third in the 2008 series. Simon Cowell at one stage referred to the pair as 'just a couple of kids in love'.
However, Diana (who is now dating actor and singer Joshua Jenkins) claims the pair were not romantically involved. 'There was never a relationship between Eoghan and I, but we did become good friends. We were both very young.
'The X Factor experience is very intense, and you strike up strong bonds with people. I'm not in touch with him any more. We drifted apart when he went back to school in Ireland, but I have some great memories, and it would be nice to see him again.'
Diana is looking forward to taking her new songs on the road. Next month' s UK tour will be followed by open-air shows at the V Festival and the Summer Sundae Weekender. Once the Marmite girl, she is now getting used to being the toast of British pop.

'I don't think the success of the single has sunk in yet,' she says. 'I would have been happy to get anywhere in the Top Ten, but to get to No 1 is amazing.

'Singing my own songs has been the best part of this. And I now feel much more comfortable on stage. I love feeding off the energy of a live crowd.

It's so great to have a sneak preview of the tracks that will be landing on the doormat on 3rd May!

Being already familiar with the more uptempo sampler tracks, I'm particularly drawn to 'Me And You'. This is not only a lovely song but showcases a side to Diana that the public have yet to hear -- that of the folky balladeer.

I honestly think that Diana could adapt her vocal to virtually any musical genre. She is one of the most important new talents in many years and we're all in at the beginning!

On a slightly different note, how are the haters feeling this morning? Pretty pathetic I'd say.

Diana has smashed through the crucial debut number one test and from here on has much less to prove chart-wise. A number one album, while it would be nice, is much less important in the pop world than a number one single, plus there are plenty of examples of albums topping the chart many months after release due to a track becoming a big single. Most of the pressure is off and we can all sit back and enjoy the phenomenon that is Diana Vickers! :)

Diana's Success -- A Personal Opinion

I've been a fan of Diana's since that amazing rendition of 'Hallelujah' back in 2008.

X-Factor was a nationwide showcase for her unique talent and although she didn't win, this was in itself a blessing for her future career.

Since leaving the show Diana has been able to develop at her own pace and her interaction with her fans is a delight. There is no way Cowell & co would have allowed 'Little Voice' and such a close fan relationship to develop.
Diana is living proof that new exciting talent is out there, and given a showcase can achieve major success without sounding like the next Whitney or Buble.

Diana is doing a fantastic job on her own terms. The new material is fantastic -- some tracks have been leaked online but I for one have already pre-ordered Diana's album and would have even should there only be one track on it I haven't heard.

Just as a comparison, in the 2008 BBC series 'I'd Do Anything', Rachel Tucker also finished fourth but is now playing Elphaba in Wicked, arguably the biggest role in the West End.

Diana's fully deserves every bit of her success. She has had more than her fair share of 'haters' -- people who don't like her voice and are rude and ignorant enough to want to tell others. These people need to get a life. They have been proved completely wrong -- Diana is only 18 but has already won a 'Whats On Stage' award for 'Little Voice' and achieved a number one single against tough competition.

She is here to stay and her army of fans will support her through good times and bad.

Diana you are fantastic and we are all so proud of you!

CHART newcomer Diana Vickers has wished Rangers fans luck in their bid to get Tina Turner's song to the top of the charts.

But the former X Factor finalist insists she is simply The Best after shooting straight to No.1 with her debut single Once.

Diana, 18, stormed to the top despite a Facebook campaign by Rangers fans, who want their terrace anthem by soul legend Turner to top the charts in celebration of the club winning the SPL title.

Turner's track made it to No.9 in the chart, which was announced last night.

Diana, right, said: "Good luck to them but I am so pleased to be No.1. I hadn't heard about their Facebook cam-paign. I genuinely wish them luck but hopefully I'll stay at No.1. It has been overwhelming.

"Just to get into the top 10 would have been amazing. The fact that I am No.1 is a relief. I was so nervous."

She revealed she'd already heard fromX Factor judges Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole.

They congratulated her on making it to the top - despite being knocked out in the latter stages of the TV talent show finals in 2008.

Diana said: "I have already had big congrats from Simon and Cheryl as well as the JLS boys and Ruth Lorenzo, who were in the finals along with me. That was lovely. We are all here for each other as peers, so it's great.

"Simon is pleased for me. I am grateful to him because he pushed me on the show, and without his enthusiasm and belief I wouldn't have had the opportunity to do this."

Despite her delight at being No.1, Diana insisted her celebrations would be low-key.

She said: "My mum and my sister have come to be with me. I haven't planned anything or booked a restaurant, but we'll get something to eat and have a lovely meal.

"Hopefully I can have a nice party with close family and friends. We'll probably end up in Greggs bakers."

Diana's Scottish concert on on May 20 has been moved to Edinburgh Queen's Hall from the city's Liquid Room venue due to demand.

She said: "I'm looking forward to that because I always feel that touring is the best part for me.

"I love Edinburgh and can't wait. Hopefully, it'll be a good crowd and a big night. I am well up for playing to a bigger crowd."

Diana releases her debut album, Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree, on May 3. It features the single, which was penned by Cathy Dennis, as well as some other collaborations.

OK so it's not fair -- Digital Spy have got hold of a copy of the new album and we haven't (yet). But with a five star review such as this, we'll forgive them.

Diana Vickers: 'Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree'

It won't have escaped your attention that here at DS we're quite fond of Diana Vickers - and from the sales of her debut single 'Once', it's clear that we're not the only ones. Chucking out a one-off pop hit is one thing though, but sustaining that charm over the course of an album is quite another. The early signs were good - Vickers has famously taken plenty of time to get the talent and tunes together, assembling a supporting cast that includes Ellie Goulding, Lightspeed Champion (Dev Hynes), Nerina Pallot, Starsmith, Cathy Dennis and longtime Björk collaborator Guy Sigsworth. And guess what... the claw-handed girl from Blackburn with the Marmite™ voice has pulled it off.

Almost as if to prove that it's a proper pop album, Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree is frontloaded with the guitar-heavy slam of the Big Hit Single and a couple of likely follow-ups. 'Remake Me & You' out-pops the work of its co-author Ellie Goulding while sneakily nicking some of her edge. 'The Boy Who Murdered Love' is a lilting split song whose straight verses perfectly frame another massive chorus. With that voice clearly capable of conquering the whole electro-pop thing, a follow-up question is raised: Does it have what it takes for a proper weepie? The answer is 'Yes' on the fragile 'Four Leaf Clover' and epic-sounding, Pallot-penned 'Put It Back Together', but 'No', on the nice-but-generic 'Notice' and Hynes's stripped-back 'Me & You' - with those last two being the rare songs here that seem to lack a certain something.

However, there's fun and fizz in abundance elsewhere on the album. The brassy, hooky 'My Hip' still blows us away as much as the first time we laid ears on it, while a sparkling cover of The Sugarcubes' 'Hit' gives some modern gloss to Björk's former band's most commercial moment. Though it sadly excises Einar's gloriously uncool rap (maybe Vickers missed a trick by not roping in John & Edward to have a bash?), it should still inspire some of the new generation to delve into the back catalogue of Iceland's finest. Lyrically, the album is pretty one-note (being all about boyz 'n' breakups), but it still feels refreshingly honest. A line like "N.U.M.B. / I feel empty / Of feeling / Of feeling / Even God is grieving" might look completely absurd on paper, but in the listening, it just nails the tragicomic solipsism of depressed teenage heartbreak.

For all the sniffiness about RCA self-consciously trying to rebrand Vickers as a "credible" artist, the fact is that it's not just window-dressing. The average X Factor alumnus seeking serious success sticks to safe one-off shows and telly for a couple of years to build up the brand. Vickers has actually put the hours in on the road when it would have been so much easier (and less risky) to do a couple of chatshows and put her feet up. More importantly, she and her friends have crafted an album that's drenched in accessible pop melodies while never sacrificing the charm and personality that clawed us in from the start.

heatworld spent the morning doing something very exciting indeed. Yeah, we were just hanging out with our favourite pop lady Diana Vickers at her debut for Radio 1’s Live Lounge. She told us she was “so nervous” before her little singsong, which saw her do ace new single Once and a blinding cover of Snow Patrol’s Just Say Yes. Diana’s on course to be Number One this weekend, but it’s not just Chipmunk (who’s 9,000 sales behind her at the mo) that’s got her worried. She has pressing concern in the shape of that unpronounceable volanco in Iceland. “It hasn’t sunk in yet that possibly I could be number one,” she told us. “It could all change – some people could finally get on their planes back to the UK and download Chipmunk. Keep them trapped away!” If she does top the charts on Sunday, Diana’s excited about becoming the latest member of the X Factor Number One club. “It’s really impressive,” she says. “It just goes to show we’ve all worked really hard for this. The JLS boys work their asses off, so does Leona – it’s really exciting. Even if you don’t win the show, you still have to strive on. Of course everyone wants to win it, but you can still do it if you still work your hardest after the show.” Di let us into a secret, too - she’s filming the vid to her second single next month. But she remained tight-lipped over what it’s going to be. “No hints!" she says. "You just have to look forward to it!” Spoilsport. After singing her lungs out for Radio 1, she was off to get a jacket potato with cheese, beans and coleslaw for lunch. Rock 'n' roll.

These videos are all freely available on Youtube. They were posted by someone with the username 'buzzingtalk999' and I'm sure you'll agree that they are excellent quality both visually and acoustically.
There are of course lots of Diana gig videos on Youtube but I feel that these are the best and really capture the atmosphere as well as Diana's personality.

The show kicked off with 'The Boy Who Murdered Love'. Note how happy and relaxed Diana is as she proudly takes the stage in her hometown. Her band sound great too!

We're Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having begun this blog while Diana was still on X-Factor, I couldn't help noticing an amazing amount of other sites springing up, most notably the excellently run dianavickers.com and dianavickersmusic.com. I felt that, unlike the blog started for 'I'd Do Anything' contestant Rachel Tucker (which continues to this day), there was enough Diana material out there to keep everyone happy.

So the reason I've resurrected this blog is a purely selfish one. I'm just going to use it to give my personal thoughts on Diana's work -- it won't be a news update site or anything like that, it will be merely me. Charlotte remains a contributor and I look forward to her comments and posts as well.

So a quick recap of what everyone knows -- Diana finished fourth in X-Factor 2008, rather bizarrely the same position that Rachel did in IDA. Rachel is now playing Elphaba in Wicked, arguably the biggest role in London's West End, so as my fellow blogger Andy recently opined 'fourth is the new first.'

The final three in X-Factor 2008 were Eoghan Quigg (3rd), JLS (2nd) and Alexandra Burke (1st), with an honourable mention for the great Ruth Lorenzo, who finished just behind Diana. The two have remained friends and even performed a duet of Snow Patrol's 'Run' live last year.

Eoghan basically sank without trace. The supposed romance between him and Diana was (in my opinion) more media generated than real, and Diana quickly returned to her old boyfriend. Eoghan recorded a hasty album which flopped and the last I heard he had gone back to school.

JLS and Alexandra Burke have gone on to achieve impressive success, something which I rather doubt will happen to any of the 2009 XF contestants. When the sole memorable act is the Irish equivalent of the Cheeky Girls and the winner loses out on the Christmas number one to a hard rock rap act, a serious rethink is needed.

But enough of Simon Cowell's problems. Diana wisely opted not to sign with his label and instead embarked on a series of PAs around the country, followed by an incredible stint in London's West End, starring in 'The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.' Sadly I didn't manage to see the show but Diana received much acclaim, not only from critics but the voting public as well. She won 'Best Newcomer' in the Whatsonstage Awards -- no mean feat in a very tough and competitive business.

Diana then turned her attention to her debut album, 'Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree', due for release on May 3rd (I've pre-ordered needless to say). Lead-off single 'Once' has been heavily trailed on radio, Youtube and through a series of TV appearances, including GMTV, Blue Peter and Loose Women.

As with everything Diana, reaction to the single has been mixed, but largely postive. 'Once' is a fantastic slice of electro-pop, penned by veteran songwriter Cathy Dennis and is destined for a high placing on next Sunday's chart. I think number one may be a little optimistic, given tough competition from Usher, but top five is certainly achievable.

To promote the album, Diana embarked on a mini-tour, set to continue in May. Unfortunately this doesn't include any Irish dates, but judging by the Youtube evidence, Diana has really hit her stride vocally and in terms of self-confidence. Her homecoming gig in Blackburn on March 27th is a perfect example. Someone did a superb job of recording most of the gig, and we'll be featuring this great footage on the blog.

Also highly noteworthy is Diana's recent appearance on the GMTV Live Lounge (video below), when she performed a lovely version of 'Once' accompanied solely by an acoustic guitar.

This performance showcases everything that polarises opinion on Diana. Introducing the song herself, she treats us to those quirky little mannerisms of hers -- the slightly self-concious opening spiel, the 'talking hands' and the endearingly hilarious 'when you're ready' to the guy on guitar. Her singing is both raw and beautiful, not to mention absolutely unique. It's actually a privledge to be able to watch and listen to someone so genuinely and excitingly different, right down to the delightful little round of self applause right at the end.

I've been around a lot longer than most Diana fans and would compare her with two artists who both energed in the late 70s. Kate Bush, though it may be hard for many to believe today, polarised the nation in 1978 when she performed the haunting 'Wuthering Heights' on Top of the Pops. Likewise Gary Numan, on the same show in 1979, delighted and repulsed in equal measure with his robotic persona and icy songs such as 'Are 'Friends' Electric?' and the still familiar 'Cars.'

Both artists, despite much unfair criticism, sustained music careers which continue to this day. Both built up fiercely loyal fanbases who bought everything possible, legal or not and who stayed true to their idols for decades, despite long album hiatus's (in Bush case) and frequent dips in quality (Numan).

Whilst Diana's background is very different, being thrust into the limelight on a TV talent show long before any music material was released, I can see definite parallels. Diana's 'haters' are often vicious, in many cases going out of their way to criticise her on forums etc. Her fans are equally and often fanatically supportive -- her Facebook Group alone has over a quarter of a million members.

Again a perfect illustration of Diana -- she's a wonderful mix of quirky, funny, self-conscious, confident, awkward, steely and adorable. In short everything that most manufactured mainstream stars simply aren't.

For the first time in many years, I'm genuinely excited about a new music talent. Diana's career is, I hope, set to run and run. "A HARROGATE nightclub was packed with X Factor fans last week to see kooky singer Diana Vickers perform in what was one of its most successful live events.
The 17-year-old, whose distinctive singing style took her to the semi-finals of the TV talent show, captivated fans at the Viper Rooms last Tuesday.

Andrew Strugnell, responsible for marketing and promotions at Viper, said: "It was a very popular event. We sold out before we'd even opened the doors. It was very successful."

Diana arrived around 9pm and met fans before taking to the stage and performing some of her X Factor songs, including Take That's Patience and Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror.

Mr Strugnell said: "The crowd were really supportive she was quite shocked at how wired they really were – she had a really good response.

"It has been one of the most popular ticketed events we have ever had.

"I think this is due to the popularity of the X Factor and catching her just as she came out.""

The night that Diana was sent home brought alot of tears to many people. The magical moment of the series, for me, was Eoghan running on, followed by Alexandra and JLS, and uncontrollably crying because of the thought that his best friend throughout the competition was out. Eoghan, we all thought the same! After a short while, he did regain his composure and Diana joined her mentor who gave her lots of sympathy. This year could be said to be the best year of Diana's life with all the opportunites she's had and the success she's had with it. Her career has now started and I'm sure we all agree that it will be long and successful from here onwards. To think that if she had not turned up to just that first audition, we wouldn't know her name, she wouldn't have been on our TV screens for over 9 weeks, and more importantly, we wouldn't be listening to her beautiful voice day in, day out. So this year is one to remember!

However, I am sure there will be many more opportunities in 2009 so lets look forward to it!

Diana Vickers has revealed the depth of her feelings for fellow X Factor sweetheart Eoghan Quigg.
For weeks there has been romantic tension between the teens, and on Saturday night the pair were photographed stealing an intimate kiss outside the show's studio after the final.
In an interview with Heat magazine, Diana said: 'There’s a difference between loving each other and being in love. I love him to bits...'

Describing 16-year-old Eoghan, the 17-year-old said: 'People look at him like he’s a ten-year-old boy or something. He’s not, though, at all – he’s surprisingly grown up.
'He’s very mature...He’s sensitive and very caring and considerate...He can be very silly too, though.'

But it became obvious the pair shared a romantic bond after Diana was voted out last week, when Eoghan ran on stage sobbing 'I love you, I love you' following her elimination.
Her then boyfriend Chris Jones, a Manchester University student, was said to have been 'livid' by the display.

But Diana says she was touched by Eoghan's emotional outpouring.
'Aww. He is very sensitive... Although he's got a crazy side, he's also very open about his feelings and would always tell me if he was upset or worried.
'He wears his heart on his sleeve - and that's not a bad thing.'
Diana says she can't wait to see more of Eoghan. 'I keep watching it back on YouTube and thinking, "God, this is better than The Notebook. This is incredible." It was so cute and I coudn't think of a better way to end it. I didn't want to finish the end of my song and I think he just sensed it.'
Diana has since split from her boyfriend, whom she had dated for six months.
'On the Sunday after my final show, I said to him that I’m not going to be at home for a while...and, well, we both agreed that we’re going to cool it.'
She said. 'He’s going to go home and I’m going to stay in London.
'It’s so much to think about – I’m just 17 and I need to think about my career and put my all into it without thinking about someone else and having a relationship.'
Disputing rumours that she and Eoghan have been dating for the past month, she said: 'At the end of the day, I’m not a liar.
'I’ll tell [Chris] everything to do with me and Eoghan and I’d never cheat on anyone in my life.
'I know that people get hurt and I'd never do that to Chris. We speak a lot, and although we're not really strong at the moment, we have to see what will happen in the future.
Diana insists he was understanding when it came to her bond with Eoghan.
'He's not that sort of jealous person. And I was like that with him, too - I could let Chris go out for a meal with a female friend and wouldn't bat an eyelid.
'He understood as well - he said to me, "Diana, I know you've been away from me for weeks and you've been in that house by yourself. I understand that you've got close to a person and I get that completely.'
However she admits it was awkward when both boys met on the night she was eliminated.

'I’m going to make sure I spend some time with Chris at Christmas, and who’s to say what’s going to happen in the future? I can’t wait to see Eoghan more...I don't know what’s going to happen.'
Asked if he thought he and Diana who become a couple, Eoghan, who describes himself as ‘a charmer’ said: 'It’s possible...maybe...or maybe not.'
He describes meeting Diana as ‘the best experience of his life’ and added: 'She’s a really lovely girl and we have got a strong bond together. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.'
In a separate interview with Grazia magazine, Diana also opened up about her relationship with mentor Cheryl Cole.
'When I first met her I was like, "How can someone be so amazing and lovely and sweet and funny?" I did think she was a big unreal. I didn't know how to act around this little... fairy.'
But the two have since grown close, and Diana recently joined Cheryl and husband Ashley Cole for Sunday lunch at their home.
'We had roast beef and all the trimmings with trifle for pudding. It was delicious. I scoffed all mine down.'
Diana was kicked out of the X Factor after the semi-finals when she came fourth in the public vote.
Eoghan went on to compete in the final, but ended in third place to JLS and ultimate victor Alexandra Burke.
While her career and romantic life remain uncertain, her plan for the future is simple: 'To reach for the stars.'

Wirral debut for X Factor hopefuls

THE latest series of The X Factor reached its exciting conclusion earlier this month and now two of the show’s hopefuls are heading for Wirral to perform at the Pacific Road Arts Centre in Birkenhead.

Diana Vickers and Ruth Lorenzo will be performing at the venue on Sunday, December 28.

Diana Vickers from Blackburn, Lancashire, with her unique, quirky and charming voice will be accompanied by Ruth Lorenzo, bringing her massive voice and Iberian charm to Wirral.

Also performing live on the show will be Danny Morris, formerly of boyband Eton Road, and Shaun Rogerson, who both appeared on the X Factor in 2006.

The show will be opened by local Wirral based dance group Anamal Dance Company. They won the Liverpool Capital of Culture competition with their Cirque de Rouge routine.

“This piece is fundamentally a street dance routine, featuring 22 dancers aged 16+ and includes a number of gymnasts who have represented their country at professional level, based on a circus theme, we utilise their skills to create a very bright and vibrant street/theatre piece,” said Ana Malone, principal at Anamal Dance Company.

There are hundreds of singers in the charts with big, powerful voices but I can't think of many like Diana. Simon said much the same thing after her performance of 'Patience' on last nights show. Was it perfect? No. Did it matter? Absolutely not. In fact Simon went as far as saying that was one of the reasons he loved it.

For the second week running I think the right person went home, although I was slightly surprised to see JLS in the sing off.

Alexandra is getting stronger every week and although I personally don't think he is anything more than a cute kid with a pleasant voice, Eoghan has yet to be in the bottom 2. They are probably the main threat to Diana's chances but I still think the little girl from Blackburn is leading the field.

A Personal Message for Diana

Apologies for the delay in this post -- Andy and I were away for the weekend seeing Rachel Tucker in 'We Will Rock You' (see Rachel's blog for full details).

Thankfully Diana was able to return on Saturday, and although her voice isn't 100% yet, she gave a very good performance of Coldplay's 'Yellow', more than enough to see her through to next week.

Personally I think Diana's confidence has taken a knock. There have been some comments in the press which have been well out of order regarding her absence last week and as Dannii said in her comments; 'if you can't sing you can't sing.'
Diana fully needed and deserved to by-pass last week -- Laura's undeserved exit was nothing to do with Diana -- Laura would still have been in the bottom two anyway.

Diana looked uncomfortable and unhappy, particularly at the end of the song and during the judge's comments. Diana -- if you're reading this -- you need to get your self-belief back. Despite this being a below par performance due to ill health, you were still head and shoulders above everyone else.

You have literally hundreds of thousands of fans out there who believe in you. You have a fantastic talent and no matter what happens in the competition you will go far. You MUST reach the final -- you are the heart of this year's X-Factor and as last week proved, without you the show is barely worth watching. Hold your head up and keep going -- we believe in you!!!!

Next week is 'Take That' week. Rather like Mariah Carey week, this is likely to make the show very one-dimensional and boring. At least 'Best of British' gave a decent scope for song choices. The X-Factor producers really do need to have a rethink.

The 'Unreality TV' site are today suggesting that Diana may not be well enough to perform this Saturday either, thereby elmininating her from the competition.

Obviously we hope that this won't happen, but with just over 48 hours until the show airs, it certainly isn't a good sign.
The article suggests that Diana had to go home to be looked after by her mum, but this seems unlikely given her very public visit to her home town at the same time (see article below).

One thing we can say is that even if the worst happens and Diana is out of X-Factor, this is most certainly not the end of her career. She is sure to be in huge demand and the loser will be X-Factor themselves (though we fully understand their difficult position).
Whatever happens we will continue to report on and support Diana.
We will both be away this weekend and unable to post new material, but we'll be back to work on Monday.

UNREALITY TV ARTICLE:

X Factor contestant, Diana Vickers missed last weeks live show due to a bout of Laryngitis and though she hoped to be back this week, it’s not looking great according to the show choreographer.

Diana made a statement yesterday saying:

She said: “The doctor made it clear that I could risk long-term damage to my voice. I was absolutely devastated to be told I couldn’t perform on Saturday.

“I am due to see the doctor again tomorrow, so fingers crossed I will be able to take part in this Saturday’s show.”

But The Sun has reported that Diana was feeling so poorly yesterday that she yesterday went home to be looked after by her mum Ann.

DIANA Vickers came home yesterday in a surprise visit to East Lancashire.

The 17-year-old X Factor hopeful spent the morn-ing with her mum at their home in Accrington.

In the afternoon she dropped in to see her teachers and friends at Westholme School, before visiting work colleagues at Marks and Spencer, in Blackburn town centre.

Cameras for the ITV1 talent contest were following Diana and the visit is likely to be screened on a future broadcast.

X Factor officials said Diana was unable to give interviews as she needed to rest her voice after a throat infection which forced her to sit out last week’s show.

But, amid a growing national media storm about the decision to let her go through to the next round, she issued a statement re-iterating that she was unable to perform.

Footage yesterday emer-ged of Diana at a bonfire night event last Wednes-day in which she was seen shouting with glee along-side fellow contestants.

In the statement, Diana said: “I felt under the weather all last week, but didn’t want to miss out on the fireworks display.

“On Thursday I saw the doctor and was given antibiotics and next day I was diagnosed with laryngitis by a Harley Street specialist.

“Until Saturday after-noon, I was still hoping and praying that I would be well enough to perform, but the producers spoke to the doctor who made it clear that I could risk long-term damage to my voice.

“I was absolutely devastated to be told I couldn’t perform on Saturday and disapp-ointed not to be able to meet Mariah Carey.

“I am due to see the doctor again on Friday, so fingers crossed, I will be able to take part in this Saturday’s show.”

Diana called in at Marks and Spencer, in King William Street, at about 3.30pm. She was greeted by cheers from teary-eyed staff and a group of customers gathered in the store entrance taking pictures on their mobile phones and asking for autographs.

Diana was heard to say: “My voice is on the mend. I have to see the doctor again tomorrow, but it’s got a lot better.”

Diana is due to see her doctor again on Friday when a final decision will be made on Saturday nights Best of British themed performance.

Diana is desperate to sing and can’t wait to get into the studio again. Having to sit out last weekend was painful for her and now she just wants to get back on track.

Interestingly the Guardian newspaper has published an article saying that Eoghan Quigg receives the most votes each week to stay in. That would make him the most popular singer and a great bet at 11/2 with Paddy Power and Stan James. Whether or not it is true, we just don’t know but at the odds it could be worth risking.

X FACTOR star Diana Vickers, who missed Saturday’s live show due to a throat infection, is feeling “a lot better”, according to family.

The ITV1 talent show’s Harley Street doctor said Diana risked permanently damaging her vocal cords if she sang on Saturday night.

Diana’s dad Eddie Vickers revealed she would have sung Always Be My Baby as part of the Mariah Carey-themed week if she had been fit enough to perform.

The 17-year-old Westholme pupil from Accrington was taken ill last week and missed to opportunity to meet and sing with Mariah, one of her heroes.

Her close friend on the show Laura White, from Bolton, was booted off by the judges.

Mr Vickers said: “It was a bit of a shock on Saturday night with Laura going out.

"I think the show missed Diana on Saturday. It was a bit flat without her.

"Diana is a lot better but she can’t sing.

"She has had two or three days of rest with her voice on the advice of doctors.

“I want her better regardless. She’s our daughter and you feel for them when they are ill anyway.

“We are hoping she is all right. She has six days to recover.

“We just want her to get better so she can continue.”

Diana was allowed to miss this week’s show but must recover for next week to keep her place.

A Few Words for Laura

With no Diana performance tonight, I just want to say a few words about Laura's untimely exit.

I personally rated Ruth and Laura very highly in this contest. Neither of their initial performances were outstanding tonight but other than Alexandra, who was?
Neither should have been in the bottom two, and it's painfully obvious that the public are not voting on talent or future star potential.

Eoghan, Daniel and Rachel are emphatically not stars of the future and while they may have some sort of niche market, they frankly do not deserve to be in the final seven in my humble opinion.

Alexandra, Ruth, JLS and of course Diana most emphatically have talent.

Alexandra has a stunning voice and is superb to watch on stage. Every one of her performances have been breath-taking.

Ruth may not excel in every musical genre but her performances of 'Purple Rain' and 'Heaven's Door' where she was able to rock out, were both stunning and I for one would pay good money to see her in concert.

JLS work superbly as a unit and have a bright future, and of course Diana is totally unique and I believe we still haven't seen her best. If she can pick herself up for next week, I firmly believe she can walk this contest.

However the other three acts really have overstayed their welcome, yet they keep pulling in the votes. Why? Can anyone enlighten us?

As we feared, Diana was unable to perform tonight due to laryngitis, and boy was she missed. Tonight was by far the dullest show of the series with in my opinion only Alexandra being truly outstanding.

X FACTOR star Diana Vickers has been told by doctors to pull out of tonight's show.

The youngster, currently the 6-4 bookies'favourite to win the contest, might be withdrawn after doctors ruled that she has a serious strain of laryngitis on her vocal chords.

A show source said: "Diana would be crazy to go ahead. She hasn't practised all week and risks permanently damaging her voice if she gets up on stage.

"She could barely speak yesterday but she is insisting the show must go on and wants to perform.

"But everyone is re-organising the show without her song and it has caused chaos."

If she pulls out, the 17-year-old will become the first person ever to miss a show with illness.

Show bosses would give her seven days to sort her voice out - or she faces the prospect of being booted off for good.

In Pop Idol, Rik Waller was given a week's reprieve but had to pull out of the show the following week.

Diana has been taking antibiotics this week in a bid to beat the bug. But things have now got even worse and Diana can barely talk.

A show source said: "Diana will be gutted to miss the show.

"Yesterday, when other contestants were getting master classes with Mariah, she was at the doctors in tears. But bosses can only really give her a reprieve for a week."

DIANA Vickers has fallen ill with laryngitis and may not be well enough to perform in tomorrow’s live X Factor show.

The contestant, who is the favourite to win the series, was spotted heading out to a private clinic this morning before telling photographers she’s suffering from the throat infection.

Show insiders say the star is on strict instructions not to speak or sing until tomorrow, when she will be told if she is well enough to perform.

Diana will be missing out on a singing master class by superstar Mariah Carey - which is taking place at the X Factor studios today.

The teen has been prescribed some antibiotics and is resting up and "keeping her fingers crossed".

X FACTOR sensation Diana Vickers is to help switch on the Christmas lights in London’s Oxford Street.

But bosses of the hit ITV1 talent show have said that Diana, from Accrington, will not be able to grant Hyndburn Council’s request for her to switch on her hometown’s festive lights display.

X Factor chiefs have placed a blanket ban on all contestants going home for Christmas appearances.

Instead, arrangements have been made for all the X Factor finalists to perform classic Christmas songs together at the Oxford Street light switch on, along with the girl band the Sugababes.

The production company which makes the X Factor, Talkback Thames, said the contestant’s schedules were so jam-packed, that arranging travel and individual publicity events for each finalist would simply take too much time.

This year contestants will join a glittering celebrity bash to take place at Oxford Street in London’s West End.

The tens of thousands of spectators who are expected to turn up, will also get to see the cast of Mamma Mia! performing songs from the smash hit musical.

The Westholme pupil’s mum Ann Vickers said: “I know that Diana would absolutely love to switch on Accrington’s Christmas lights, and that she would be happy to as soon as she free to do it.

“At the moment though, she is contracted to the X Factor and they are making all the arrangements for her.”

Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, Coun Pete Britliffe said: “It is a real disappointment for us, but we are really pleased that Diana is taking part in the Oxford Street celebrations.

“Who knows what will happen in the future? There is always next year and we wish Diana the very best.

“We could be welcoming the winner of X Factor to turn on our Christmas lights for 2009 and that would be quite something.

“We did hope X Factor would release Diana from her contract, but as it’s not to be, we can still support her while the competition is ongoing.”

A spokeswoman for X Factor said: “Unfortunately, due to the heavy work schedule with The X Factor, neither Diana Vickers or any of the other finalists are able to attend any local Christmas lights switch-on this year.”

The singer, 17, is finding it difficult being away from her family and student boyfriend Chris Jones, 18, in Blackburn.

‘Diana’s been very homesick, especially when the show started,’ says Ann, 56.

‘It was quite emotional – she’s never been away from home like this before and on top of the singer pressure, she’s had to adjust to living without us.

‘There were times when she’d get upset and question what she was doing on the show.

'She’s a bag of nerves before the performances but she’s stuck through it all and we’ve very proud.’

Diana Vickers invited to switch on Accrington Christmas lights

DIANA Vickers has been officially asked to switch on her hometown’s Christmas lights.

Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, Coun Peter Britcliffe, revealed the council had asked Diana to oversee Accrington’s Christmas lights switch-on, after making contact through the X Factor’s publicity office.

He said the council had received a reply from the X Factor that as Diana was under contract to them, it was their decision as to whether she would be free to attend or not.

If they decide to allow Diana to attend on the night, the Westholme pupil would launch Hyndburn’s Christmas switch-on season outside Accrington Town Hall on Thursday November 20 at 6.30pm, followed by a giant aerial display above the Arndale Shopping Centre.

Diana would add to the entertainment stage planned for outside the Town Hall before switching on the lights at 7.30pm, preceeding a firework display in front of the Arndale.

The evening will launch switch-ons around Hyndburn, and the council are keen that the borough’s brightest new star should be a part of it.

Coun Britcliffe said the council remained optimistic. He said: “We would be delighted if she was free to take part as she is gaining new fans by the day.

“It is very exciting for other young people from Accrington to watch this young girl doing her best to make her dreams come true.

“I think she is a very inspirational role model.

“At this stage, we have been told that she is under contract to X Factor, so we have written to them again to ask if it is possible to release her for the night.

"She is a national celebrity now so we are just keeping our fingers crossed that X Factor will give her permission.”

Diana, who has lived in Accrington with her mum and sister since the family moved from Blackburn a few years ago, has been gathering even more celebrity fans this week.

After being named Geri Halliwell’s favourite last week, both Will Young and new Bond girl Gemma Arterton have tipped Diana for the top.

My Two Cents Worth

After an absolutely stunning performance on Saturday, there was never any doubt that Diana would sail through to the next round, but what of the other acts?

Well I was pretty sure I had a safe bet on Daniel and Eoghan being in the bottom two. I mean let's be honest, they can't really sing can they?
So imagine my surprise when Daniel was first through, with Eoghan not far behind.

Who exactly is voting for them? Is Daniel simply attracting the granny vote as with his sickly namesake Mr O'Donnell? Is Eoghan getting everybody's mum to feel sorry for him?

Whatever the answer, the upshot was that Austin Drage, by some distance the best male act in the competition, ended up going home.
Yet again the public rate cuteness and sentimentality over talent.

Can we PLEASE have some sanity next week?
Think once -- think twice -- think DON'T vote for Daniel or Eoghan.

ANDY - I have to agree with David on this one. I don't rate Daniel or Eoghan at all.

We all know Daniel's had a tough time but that has already taken him much further than it should have; without his sob story he wouldn't have made the final 12.

Eoghan might be considered a cute kid but would you really buy his record? I know I wouldn't. Why the judges rave about him so much I really don’t know.

It also amazes me how the judges seem to think Rachel has potential. I have seen nothing to suggest she is anything special and I was disappointed she was saved over Austen. Her attitude and personality make me cringe.

IMO there are only 3 possible winners of this years show and they are all in Cheryl's category. If you fancy an outside bet go for JLS but I think one of the young girls will win and if there's any justice it will be Diana.

DIANA VICKERS IS MY FAVOURITE says WILL YOUNG

WILL Young, the first winner of Pop Idol, has backed Diana Vickers to claim victory in this year’s X Factor.

During a performance on Saturday night’s show the star was asked who his favourite performer was and his answer was simple – Diana.

Saturday’s programme saw her perform the Blondie classic Call Me as the acts turned their talents towards disco anthems.

Will Young, who gave tips to the young performers as they prepared their songs, described Diana as his favourite after she belted out the hit which saw her in black hot pants and standing on roller skates.

Diana’s mum, Ann Vickers, said she was delighted to see her daughter progress.

Speaking yesterday, she said: “I thought it was a good performance and she looked happy with it. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. She will have to perform Mariah Carey tunes next week so that will be interesting for her to see which song she gets.”

Mrs Vickers was speaking from London where she was waiting for Diana, 17, to finish rehearsals.

Although some judges were critical of the choreography on Diana’s routine, Simon Cowell praised her vocals.

He told her: “That was the best performance so far.”

Fellow judge Louis Walsh added: “You are one of my favourite people in this.”

IF FAN sites are anything to go by, then Diana Vickers is the dead cert to win X Factor this year.

Diana, 17, from Accrington, has more than 97,000 fans signed up to groups on social networking website Facebook – more than double her nearest competitor.

Her dedicated fan page had 81,025 yesterday with another 12,397 in a group called ‘Diana Vickers to win X Factor 2008’, as well as dozens of smaller fan groups.

Laura White from Bolton is the second highest ranked singer in the competition with more than 41,000 fan group member.

Other competitors have as few as 2,138 fans signed up to their groups.

Bookies have already made the Westholme School sixth-former favourite to win ITV’s The X Factor after Simon Cowell said she was the one to beat.

Following her show-stopping performance on of Michael Jackson hit Man In The Mirror, odds on her to win were slashed from 5/1 to 11/4.

Bookies have placed former favourite Laura in the second spot with odds of 7/2 and Alexandra Burke third with odds of 11/2.

Diana’s dad Eddie Vickers said: “I didn’t realise there were so many people signed up as her fans. It’s absolutely brilliant.

Diana reportedly has a boyfriend, the distance between Blackburn and Dungiven kind of makes long-term contact a bit tricky, and (correct me if I'm wrong) the only 'reality TV' romance I can recall lasting was Peter & Katie. And the less said about them the better.

As always the tabloids are reporting all the really important stuff -- 'The Sun' recently featured an exclusive photo of Diana & Eoghan buying a loaf of bread.

We did however think it worth quoting this particular story, illustrating how much Diana cares about her fans:

She had a leather jacket — but carried it rather than wear it to fight off the chill.

An onlooker said: “Diana seems really extra special. She happily signed autographs for all her fans. Nothing is too much trouble for her.

DIANA Vickers’ performance of Michael Jackson’s Man In the Mirror has seen the original storm back into the charts.

Diana, from Accrington, sang the song barefoot on October 18 as part of the X Factor’s Michael Jackson-themed night.

The original was released in 1988 - three years before Diana was born - and was the fourth consecutive number one hit from Jackson’s Bad album.

But now the Westholme School pupil’s performance of the song has led to a flurry of downloads on internet music sites such as iTunes.

And Man In The Mirror has re-charted at 55 as a result.

Diana’s mum Ann, who works at Marks and Spencers in Blackburn town centre, said: “It’s fantastic news.

“Diana is a Michael Jackson fan definitely, and I love all of his records.

“I enjoyed her singing her own version of the song, I thought it was great.

“She loves the Beatles as well as Michael Jackson. ”

The judges told Diana she had made Man In The Mirror her own song because of her unique performance.

None of the other Michael Jackson songs sung by Diana’s rival contestants re-entered the charts.

Diana, 17, is the 7-4 favourite with bookmakers after two of the ITV talent show’s judges said she was the contestant to beat following her first three performances on the live shows.

'Hero' Charity Single tipped for Number One

On Saturday's X-Factor results show, the finalists sang their cover of Mariah Carey's Hero for the first time. The single, already tipped for number one in next week's chart was released in order to raise money for the 'Help for Heroes' charity, which provides support for wounded servicemen and women.

EAST LANCASHIRE’S X Factor star Diana Vickers showed the judges she could swing in more ways than one on Saturday’s show.

The 17-year-old Westholme student performed the classic Smile on Saturday’s big band special as she won through another round of the competition.

But she had to sing the 60-year-old song while sitting on a huge swing, something which she admitted had left her “terrified”.

Her performance was greeted with a standing ovation from all the judges, with Simon Cowell saying: “There is something special about you.”

Louis Walsh said: “I love your little girl voice and you made a really old song sound new. It was incredible.”

Diana’s mentor, Cheryl Cole, said that she had overcome her nerves to put on a “mesmerising” performance.

After the show Diana’s mum Ann, said: “All the family were down there again to watch her perform and it was a fantastic show — every one of them was great.

“When you are in the audience, you can't really hear what the judges are saying but I believe they were all positive again, so I’m really looking forward to getting home and watching her again on tape so I can hear what they said.

“I spoke to her last night after the show and I'm just waiting for her to finish rehearsals so we can go for dinner tonight.

"She had been very nervous, but she's delighted to have got through another week.”

Lancashire X-factor favourite Diana Vickers says a charity song is inspired by her army cousin.
The 17-year-old singer, from Accrington, Lancashire, is currently the bookies favourite to win X-factor after winning hearts with her quirky performing style.

She says a charity single for wounded troops, which the 12 finalists will unite to sing on Saturday's show, is given added meaning by her Army Signaller cousin WO2 Allan Charnley, also from East Lancashire.

She told the Sun newspaper: "I get so worried about Allan when he goes off to war."

Diana, from a strong military family, also revealed she had contemplated an army career before her bid for singing fame.

The charity single, a cover of Mariah Carey classic Hero, will raise cash for the Help for Heroes charity.

Personally I'm not quite sure what 'big band' may involve but we won't have long to wait.

ACCRINGTON’S X Factor star Diana Vickers is hoping her voice will be up to scratch after falling ill this week.

The 17-year-old has been nursing a sore throat and a cold as she prepares for tomorrow night’s live show where she and the other remaining nine acts will sing big band classics.

Last week Diana received outstanding comments following her performance of Michael Jackson’s Man In The Mirror.

Simon Cowell tipped her as "the one to beat" and her mentor, Cheryl Cole, said it was the best she had ever heard her sing.

Diana said: "It was all totally unexpected. I was so worked up before the show but I thought the comments were unbelievable."

Following the show, bookies slashed the odds on her to win from 5/1 to 11/4 favourite.

But Diana has remained realistic about her chances of winning.

She told the Observer: "It’s exciting to be the favourite but anything can happen on Saturday night. I just want to make it through to next week.

"This week it has been weird without some of the girls in the house and none of us knows what to expect."

And her sore throat has added to her worries about her performance.

She is drinking copious amounts of tea and honey to keep her vocal chords in shape.

Diana said: "It’s been a hectic week. It’s big band on Saturday night and I have a little voice so it will be a challenge."

Her mum, Ann, is again travelling to London from Accring-ton to watch the live show and says she is amazed at the number of people backing her daughter.

A Facebook fan group has attracted 40,000 members and Ann revealed people regularly stop her in Accrington to tell her they are fans of Diana.

She said: "I am not a computer person but we are just overwhelmed by the support.

"We couldn’t have asked for more and we thank everyone in Accrington and Blackburn who has supported Diana."

The show will be on ITV at 7.45pm on Saturday with the results at 10.10pm.

Here was Nicky from Big Brother lookalike and Duffy soundalike Diana Vickers arriving at The X Factor house last night.

Looking cute in her scarf, cropped trousers and peep-toe shoes, and not unlike a rabbit caught in the headlights. Or a newbie pop star in the paparazzi flashbulb lights.

Still, Diana shouldn't worry - because she's got herself a celebrity fan. And it's a Spice Girl!

Guest editing today's Daily Mirror 3am section, Geri Halliwell writes: "I love The X Factor. Diana Vickers is my favourite - she is amazing and has an incredible voice."

"But," adds Geri, "I'm not sure what she's been given to sing completely shows off her talents."

After her fantastic performance last week, Diana Vickers is the new favourite to win the X-Factor title this year.

The Accrington teenager stole both judges' and viewers' hearts on last Saturday's show with an outstanding performance of Michael Jackson's Man In The Mirror.

And she is now 2/1 favourite to be crowned the winner in December, overtaking former market leader Laura White who is only just behind Diana at 3/1.

Helen Jacob, Head of PR at Leading Bookmaker Sky Bet, said: "All three of Cheryl's girls are strong but Diana is certainly proving most popular in the betting.

"We've taken a string of chunky bets on her to win this week, so we've slashed her odds to 2/1."

With the finalists all joining together to sing their new single 'Hero' this week, Louis will be reminded that he's now down to just one act.

Despite this, Sky Bet has installed Dannii as the long shot to be the winning manager at 10/1.

Two of Dannii's three acts look vulnerable this week, with Danny Evans at 13/8 to be eliminated and sing-off survivor Ruth Lorenzo at 9/4 for the chop.

Meanwhile X-Factor is currently favourite to win the National TV Awards 'Most Popular Talent Show' at 8/11 ahead of Simon Cowell's other ratings winner, 'Britain's Got Talent'.

Laura and Diana are a domestic disaster!
It looks like Laura and Diana must have been truly dedicated to their careers as the prepared to enter The X Factor.

While the northern gals can dance, sing, look fab and be super photogenic, they're not so hot at the more mundane tasks.

Laura has admitted that the pair have not yet worked out how to use the X Factor house washing machine - and despite having to fend for themselves for three weeks now, they don't yet know how to make a hot meal for themselves.

The otherwise down-to-earth gal admitted, "Diana and I have got a good thing going with our mums. Every Saturday night, we give them a bag of washing to do. Then the next week, they bring us that bag back!"

The pair are no better when it come to cookery skills. Laura blushed, "We haven’t had a proper meal since Sophie from Bad Lashes left. We don't know how to make anything so we live on salads and cereal".

"In the evenings we order takeaways. I am so grateful for hot food now. I am grateful for a slice of warm pizza!"

With neither singer apparently coming close to the bottom two so far in the competition, it looks like they could be in the X Factor house for some time to come.

Laura said, "We are terrible, because we don't know how to look after ourselves. But I am trying. I absolutely want to do well in the competition. And I want to learn to cook while I am here, as well!

A Lesson in Fame

A few weeks ago, Diana was just another girl. Suddenly she's very hot property, with multiple Facebook, Myspace and Bebo groups (not to mention a cracking fan blog), attention from TV, newspapers and magazines and the rather less welcome attentions of the paparazzi.

Rather than featuring this clip for it's own merit, I thought I'd post it as an example of the attention (wanted or otherwise) that stars can expect when they venture into everyday life.

Diana Vickers might be the new favourite win The X Factor but she isn't convinced that she will win because of the strong competition.

She told her local newspaper: "I think this year is the strongest X Factor ever so it will be really hard for us all.

"Everyone is so passionate about what they are doing, yet we all want each other to do well."

If she does manage to win the series she is determined to follow in
the footsteps of Leona Lewis.

Diana admits: "The good thing about the X-Factor is the instant exposure it gives you.

"I have heard about people sending off demo tapes for years and years and people just throwing them away without listening to them. This is like sending a demo out to the nation.

"If I won I wouldn't be someone who just sat down and thought 'oh I can chill now' I would be asking what do I do now? What can I do next? I would put my heart into it.

"Leona Lewis worked so hard and that's why she has been such a success, so that's what I would be doing too. And if I don't win, I will still pursue a career in music. I won't give up."

I have to admit to being a little worried when I heard that 'Man in the Mirror' was the song choice for Diana, but she put on a super performance and really made the song her own.

She looked comfortable, sounded great and received unanimously positive comments from the judges. Absolutely brilliant!

And she sailed through the public vote for a second time.

So far so good!

BAREFOOT singing sensation Diana Vickers is hoping the votes will keep pouring in when she next appears live on The X Factor this weekend.

The 17-year-old and 10 other finalists will be singing Michael Jackson hits during Saturday night’s show.

Last week Diana, from Accrington, wowed the judges and the public with her performance of U2’s With Or Without You.

It was the first time she had ever performed live.

Diana told the Observer: "My gosh, it was nerve-racking. As soon as I stepped on stage I was nervous but when I looked in the audience I saw my mum and my family and felt better.

"As soon as I saw the judges, Cheryl (Cole) gave me a cheeky smile and I relaxed."

Following her performance judge Louis Walsh tipped her as "the one to beat" but his colleague, Simon Cowell, compared her to Marmite, saying viewers would either love her or hate her.

He added: "Diana, I loved it. It’s very important you stand out from the crowd and although you took a massive risk it worked."

Speaking about her decision to sing barefoot, quirky Diana said: "I never wear heels. I wore them at the dress rehearsal but it wasn’t working for me so I decided to take them off. It was the best decision I made."

Diana said she was delighted so many people had voted for her.

"It’s great to have the support."

She added that she was nervous about tomorrow night’s show and added: "I am very scared. Michael Jackson is amazing but I don’t know if my voice and his music go together."

Earlier this week national newspapers claimed Diana was acting like a diva.

But her mentor and judge Cheryl Cole offered her support as soon as the reports came out.

Diana said: "At the end of the day I know what is going on in my life and I know what is going on in the competition.

"Cheryl has been so amazing. She is definitely the best mentor. She texted me this morning to find out how rehearsals have been."

Diana said all the contestants get on very well, especially the girls.

She said: "We are having a dinner party tonight. But most of the week we are very tired and don’t have a lot of time. I still haven’t got over Saturday night. But everyone in the house is great."

And while Diana loves London, she said she misses her family – mum Ann, dad Eddie and older sister Charlotte – and all her friends from Westholme School.

She said: "I miss being able to go for a long walk or get a Chinese takeaway.

"I spent all of Sunday with my family and it was the best thing. It was really good to see them."

X Factor will be on ITV at 7.25pm on Saturday night with a results show at 10.10pm.

She's Bad!!!

Well so they say LOL.

I don't however think 'Bad' will be Diana's song choice this weekend when the contestants have to choose a Michael Jackson track to impress the judges and the voting public at home.

'Dirty Diana' is another that jumps out but I expect the producers will be too worried that people might read some implication into the title.

Jacko might not be everyone's cup of tea but whatever you feel about the guy as a person I don't think anyone can deny he has written some great songs. I think it should be a very entertaining evening; could even be a thriller lol.

Tedious as ever, the tabloids are out to 'dish the dirt' on anyone daring to be talented. This weeks it's Diana who's copping the flak for supposedly being a 'wild child' and a diva. In other words she's a normal teenager who doesn't want to be photographed every second of the day. These people actually get paid for coming up with this rubbish.

Those of us with a more grown up agenda appreciate that Diana has something they will never have -- talent. Diana's fan base has rocketed since her performance on Saturday and is likely to go stratospheric next week.
Take my advice -- use the tabloids for what they're worth -- toilet paper -- and set your recorders for Saturday night.

You'd think Diana Vickers would be on cloud nine after getting the thumbs up from the X Factor judges and viewers alike after her amazing debut live performance last week.

But no, there's something tugging away at the teenager which makes her more annoyed than anything.

... It's her age.

Because Diana is only 17 years-old, she is not allowed to leave the X Factor house alone... and it's doing her head in!

She told the official X factor website: "Being a finalist and living in The X Factor house is absolutely amazing, but if there is one thing that is really annoying me it’s being 17.

"Because I’m under 18 I’m not allowed to leave the house on my own, it’s SO frustrating!

"My birthday’s not until next July, so I’ve got forever to wait – it totally sucks!"

Diana dazzled judges with a quirky rendition of U2's With Or Without You last week but at the moment, going to the shops fills her with more excitement than singing!

She said: "A few of us are heading down to the shop in a minute and I literally can’t wait!

"I’m like: Can we go yet? Can we go yet? Can we go! No joke, sometimes you need to break free!"

Diana added that she was nervous about living with the rest of the X factor finalists at first, but felt totally at ease almost immediately.

"We’re all like one big family and I’ve made loads of great mates already, especially Laura," she said.

"I do miss my family and my boyfriend but I love it here in London – it feels like home to me.

“I’m having the time of my life and I don’t want it to stop anytime soon."

If you keep singing like you did last week Diana, neither do we!

Lancashire lass Diana Vickers left the X Factor house for rehearsals with a box of fruit yesterday morning, which is probably the correct thing to be eating as she's preparing to wow viewers on this weekend's live show.

Fruit is a tad more healthy than what X Factor rival Phoebe Jay Lau from female quartet Girlband was shoveling into her gob by the end of the day.

For Phoebe, her meal of choice was a greasy fish and chips takeaway. But could the diets of the X Factor finalists really have an effect on their performance?

If last week's show was anything to go by, then the answer is a resounding YES.

Diana was a surprise revelation with her hauntingly beautiful performance of U2's With Or Without You last Saturday.

The 17 year-old's fruit-filled tum was able to push some pitch-perfect sounds out of her mouth, and the judges were wowed too, with Simon Cowell saying he "loved it".

Phoebe Jay Lau, on the other hand, and her less than toned bandmates in Louis Walsh's Girlband proved that having all that grease swilling around your gut can sometimes travel back up the esophagus and make the vocal chords seize up.
